Food for thought

Image
Some extra effort has been put on at work these days. And that effort is growing on me. This realization dawned to me as I sat in a junk pizza place munching one of those cheesy bastards, hot and nice with mushrooms on it, waiting for a friend. It occurs to me that we, literally, throughout our lives, live celebrating our food. I am not someone who instagrams my food the moment I set my eyes on it, but I do click the food that actually makes a difference to me at a particular instance. For example, if I am tired, I cook some lemon rice with some mint chutney and since at that moment it is my comfort food, I record it in my phone, don't post it anywhere. Or if I am on a train and as hungry as a mad dog, I click those parippvadas just because they gave me my piece of pleasure I so wanted. Record to remind. So, now I added instagram filters to my food-photos and man do they look nice! I just rummaged through my phone and I find that I have tons of such Food pictures! Shar...

Old town Charm - Goan Escapade

Image
Recently I did a backpacking trip to an interior village in Goa, called Nerul , near Bardez for a week of peace. It is a bright countryside and in the mornings you can hear birds chirping and church bells ringing- get the drift? It is that silent and perfect an escapade for  people looking for a peace of mind. This piece of land is becoming a sought after area for builders due to its remote location and much takers from the cities for the country side of calm. There is a famous Church here which is a white splendid piece of architecture, trimmed with pastel blue. Looking at it makes the morning sun saner, shining bright through the bunch of Pretty Pink Bouganvillae. Lot of dogs here though - they seem utterly enjoying the freedom they're getting. Occasionally a vehicle or two passed, breaking that crass silence of the countryside. Cows moo-ed not so far away. From the Dome of Nerul Church The Nerul Church. This guy befriended me in a little time and ...

Why The City of Dreams?

Image
Why should I thank the City of Dreams for what it has made me? Why is this happening now? Of course, I miss it immensely. Living there has brought out the real me; the fearless, smart and outgoing. Opulant and charismatic ( too many adjectives i presume? Ah, nevermind) Packing to Bombay for studies was perhaps the best decision I ever took in my life. Ok, I wasn’t alone, my parents helped me with the extremely confusing choices and options, finally roundhouse-selecting Bombay; best decision in terms of experiences i would say. I’m quite sure that the four years I spent in this city was very ‘happening’ though Dad wanted me to go to Delhi. That was because he felt nostalgic and homely, being in Delhi. Having spent a major part of his life in Delhi and the north, his mastery over Hindi and Urdu languages were far superior to any Southie I knew. During his years there, he regularly used to visit Dilli-haat  whenever he was free. He knew how Delhi’s lanes were, where Paranthe...

Gokarna- Lazy beach-ing

Image
This time I fell in love with Gokarna even more! A place which has just ONE ATM, cows romping all over the streets chewing flower cud, women walking in traditional attires, pooja goodies and little God's statues, narrow roads that smells of incense sticks and blooming flowers, colorful all seems like from a different time. Time has stopped here and that's why perhaps, everyone gets lazy in Gokarna ! Cows gave us company. Loads of them. One more. Temple remnants- Street, Gokarna The music shop with the coolest of instruments. Mini-Sitar too !! Funky Kitsch T-shirt Colorful house and woman. ------- I wanted to get lazy; doze off listening to the sea and waves, see a million stars above me, tickle my taste buds, walk barefoot on the night sand at Kudle, be there; witness. For some good reason, all happened this time. We strode past the busting streets, music shops, tiny cozy beach shacks, ate well, saw 8 shooting stars over a star studded sky above, the 6 of us lay there lazed...
